I have graduated from Electrical and Electronics Department from
Bilkent University in January 2016. Then, I have channeled my inner curiosity about human
consciousness and brain processes into an academic goal.
My next step was to pursue a MSc degree
in METU Cognitive Science Department. During my masters study my research aim was to investigate the
own-age bias in facial age prediction, and integrate the so called bias into a neural network
architecture and with this integration observe what does the deep-layers do to classify ages of face images. I have released the software part of my thesis work in a GitHub repository and you may find my Master of Science Thesis here.
As of Autumn 2019, I am a part of Dr. Gordon Feld's research group: Psychology & Neurobiology of Sleep & Memory at ZI Mannheim (Central Institute of Mental Health - CIMH) as a PhD researcher.
I am a part of Dr. Gordon Feld's research group in Department of Clinical Psychology, ZI Mannheim. My research project is aimed to extinguish drug related maladaptive memories in alcohol use disorder patients during sleep utilizing disorder related odour cues.
I worked as a Teaching Assistant during lab hours, and my responsibility was to help students strengthen the concepts they have learnt during classes. Occasionally, during lab hours, lab quizzes were conducted as well. Outside of the lab hours, another responsibility given to me was to check students’ codes, validate them and grade them. CS 113 course was focused on MATLAB and CS 114 course was focused on Java.
Studied on Own-Age Bias (Cross-Age Effect) in humans and attempted to construct a Deep-Net classifier to observe the facial age recognition in a naive ANN (Artificial Neural Network) based classifier. At the end we have reported that both SVMs (Support-Vector Machines) and ANNs might be utilized for facial age classification but via utilizing ANN we had the chance to observe what Deep-Nets do to classify faces.
Received a BSc degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering programme. Programme was heavily concentrated on Electronics Engineering. During my studies, I have taken classes from Psychology department in order to fulfill my curiosity, as I mentioned earlier. Completed the degree with a two-stage senior project with the same team (Bera İçli and Zafer Yapmış). First stage was to implement a FPGA Based Number Recognition System and the second stage was to implement a Digital Transreceiver Radio working with DBPSK in the frequency region of 30 MHz.
I was responsible for the administrative duties for the projects that were already going on. This involved visits to sites when required, whereas my main focus is preliminary planning of the sites and scheduling the future work which will be implemented on sites. Moreover, my second responsibility was to seek for the future prospective projects and preparing offers for tenders.
I spent three months working as a software engineering intern as part of my undergraduate internship. Ritso is a start-up company, mainly focused on MATLAB based Dental Imaging. I worked on digital dental images and image recognition/similarity algorithms. Apart from that I worked on HTML/PHP/Javascript based web applications.
I spent one month working as a quality assurance engineer intern as part of my undergraduate internship. I was assigned to the quality assurance unit of the space systems. I have worked on international quality assurance standards and at the end of the internship I proposed a solution to optimize the business process undergoing in my unit.
